In the past, layette was a set of clothes and bedding for a newborn, hand sewn or knitted by women during pregnancy. Nowadays layette is used to describe a commercial set of clothing, bedding, accessories and other baby care products. The term is commonly used as the name of the baby clothing department in a store. |
Buy a few of each clothing item so that you always have some available for use while others are in the wash.
Always wash new baby clothes before use. An hypo-allergenic laundry detergent is most recommended for your baby's sensitive skin.
As babies grow fast, newborn sizes will soon become too small, so buy larger size clothes ahead of time.
Clothes made of 100% cotton are the most recommended for babies.
Choose clothes that open either in the front or on the side or such that have a wide neck opening.
Choose soft and comfortable materials, fasteners that close easily, and finished seams.
Check for snaps, buttons and tags that might scratch and avoid zippers which can pinch.
Choose clothes with zipper or snaps that run down the front of the outfit, not the back.
Choose clothes with snaps or zippers that run down both legs so it would be easier to change your baby's diaper.
Choose clothes with wide or loose-fitting sleeves to make it easier to pull your baby's hands out. |
